The Top 10 Geek Movies

First, let us start by saying that making this list wasn't  easy.  We wanted to make sure we got all of the best here, so we watched then re-watched a plenty of movies, bounced around the list with our staff and the geeks we know,  and drank a few hundred cups of coffee, before arriving at this  "Top 10 Geek Movies" list and a special must watch list.  Though we are betting your favorite geek movie will be here, if it isn't drop us  a comment.

So, here goes (they are not in any particular order):

Blade Runner
Set in the year 2019 the story is about Blade Runner, a police man of the future who hunts down and terminates replicants; artificially created humans.
We could tell you what it's about. But then, of course, we'd have to kill you :) Pretty engaging movie with computers, cryptography, and government espionage. Stars Robert Redford in the lead.

Back to the Future - Trilogy

1.21 Gigawatt of entertainment and one hell of a time travel movie. It's one movie that made DeLorean  a house hold name and even today inspires quite a few ideas like the hover board.
Star Wars
Long long time ago in a galaxy.. far .. Oh' come'on do we need to say something about Star Wars?
The Terminator

The ultimate cyborg movie. Cool effects, and Arnold is in his best.

Matrix -I, II & III
What's real and what's not? Are we all living in a world of dreams designed by computers? The Matrix is one movie that can really make question your own reality. Revolutionary digital effects.
2001: Space Odyssey

Mankind finds a mysterious,  artifact buried on the moon and, with the intelligent computer HAL, sets off on a quest; an epic.
James Bond

Pretty much every James Bond movie is cool and geeky. But, our personal favorites are Die Another Day and Tomorrow Never Dies.
Weird Science
Story of two nerds who set out to create the perfect woman. But, she turns out to be more than that.

Part man. Part machine. All cop. One of the best cyborg movies with enough robotic action.

Also Watch:

These movies didn't make it to the top list, but we recommend a watch, if you haven't already.

  • The First 20 Million is most always the hardest (virtual 3D display and machines smaller than Origami!)
  • The Pirates of the Silicon Valley (classic Steve Jobs vs Bill Gates; we love this movie)
  • The Revenge of the Nerds
  • The Quiet Earth
  • Cube
  • Pi
  • AntiTrust (Satellite hacking.. pretty slick)

Meanwhile, there were a few that just didn't cut in including Tron, Minority Report, Hackers (we are in double minds on this one, it's not really hacking into our minds). We felt they just aren't geeky and exciting enough.

Then there are a few, which deserve a special mention as well including The Adventures of Indiana Jones, Ghost Busters I & II, Independence Day, Lord of the Rings, I - Robot and Office Space; though not all of them are techie, we and most of our geek friends love them.

Did we miss something, drop us a comment.

Quest for the Holy Grail

Every geek/coworker I know - knows, loves, quotes Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail.

War Games.

War Games.

No.5 is alive

Yeah, we did miss Short Circuit, No.5 is definitely alive.. can't miss that.. though we can't decide if we the sequel was better or the original...

What the heck, watch both... :)
